When I was in my twenties , I stood in a hospital
Corridor waiting for doctors to put a few
Stitches in my daughter’s head. I asked, ‘When do
You stop worrying?’ The nurse said,
‘When they get out of the accident stage..’ My
Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.
When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little
Chair in a classroom and heard how one of my
Children talked incessantly, disrupted the class,
And was headed for a career making
License plates. As if to read my mind, a teacher
Said, ‘Don’t worry, they all go through
This stage and then you can sit back, relax and
Enjoy them.’ My dad just smiled
Faintly and said nothing.
When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime
Waiting for the phone to ring, the cars to come
Home, the front door to open. A friend said,
‘They’re trying to find themselves. Don’t! worry,
In a few years, you can stop worrying. They’ll be
Adults.’ My dad just smiled faintly
And said nothing.
By the time I was 50, I was sick & tired of being
Vulnerable. I was still worrying over my
Children, but there was a new wrinkle. There
Was nothing I could do about it. My

Continued to anguish over their failures, be
Tormented by their frustrations and absorbed in
Their disappointments.
My friends said that when my kids got married I
Could stop worrying and lead my own
Life. I wanted to believe that, but I was
Haunted by my dad’s warm smile and his
Occasional, ‘You look pale. Are you all right?
Call me the minute you get home. Are
You depressed about something?’
Can it be that parents are sentenced to a
Lifetime of worry? Is concern for one another
Handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of
Human frailties and the fears of the
Unknown? Is concern a curse or is it a virtue
That elevates us to the highest form of life?
One of my children became quite irritable
Recently, saying to me, ‘Where were you? I’ve been
Calling for 3 days, and no one answered I was worried.’
I smiled a warm smile.
The torch has been passed.

Hit the nail on the head!
An incident occurred in a supermarket recently, when the following was
witnessed:
A Muslim woman dressed in a Burkha (A black gown and face mask) was
standing with her shopping in a queue at the checkout. When it was her turn
to be served, and as she reached the cashier, she made a loud remark about
the English Flag lapel pin, which the female cashier was wearing on her
blouse.
The cashier reached up and touched the pin and said, ‘Yes, I always wear it
proudly. My son serves abroad with the forces and I wear it for him’.
The Muslim woman then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing
and killing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.
At that point, a Gentleman standing in the queue stepped forward, and
interrupted with a calm and gentle voice, and said to the Iraqi woman:
‘Excuse me, but hundreds of thousands of men and women, just like this
lady’s son have fought and sacrificed their lives so that people just like
YOU can stand here, in England, which is MY country and allow you to
blatantly accuse an innocent check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen’.
‘It is my belief that if you were allowed to be as outspoken as that in
Iraq, which you claim to be YOUR country, then we wouldn’t need to be
fighting there today’. ‘However - now that you have learned how to speak
out and criticise the English people who have afforded you the protection
of MY country, I will gladly pay the cost of a ticket to help you pay your
way back to Iraq ‘.
‘When you get there, and if you manage to survive for being as outspoken as
you are here in England, then you should be able to help straighten out the
mess which YOUR Iraqi countrymen have got you into in the first place,
which appears to be the reason that you have come to MY country to
avoid…’
Apparently the queue cheered and applauded.

Silver Surfers.
I just love that term, don’t you. My Mum will be joining the ranks soon. I took her today to buy a laptop, then rang up to arrange the broadband for her. She will be online next Friday. Between Richards Dad and my Mum I wonder of there will ever be any peace again LOL.
I was wondering, at what age did you first get yourself on the net. All the kids nowadays are as it’s taught in schools but there are more and more older people on the net now. I think I got my first PC about 8 and a half years ago and got the internet then. That would make me about 38ish ?

RAF Tornado crashes in Scotland
An RAF Tornado has crashed in Argyll, police have confirmed.
The plane is understood to have come down on a hillside near the Rest and Be Thankful beauty spot near Arrochar - two miles to the west of Loch Lomond.
The plane is believed to be from RAF Leuchars, in Fife. No civilians are thought to have been hurt.
There are no details on the condition of the pilot and navigator. Strathclyde Police were alerted to the incident at about 1145 BST on Thursday.

Actress Mollie Sugden dies at 86
Actress Mollie Sugden has died at the age of 86, her agent has said.
The TV star, best known for playing Mrs Slocombe in long-running BBC sitcom Are You Being Served?, died at the Royal Surrey Hospital after a long illness.
The Yorkshire-born actress’s twin sons, Robin and Simon Moore, were at her bedside, agent Joan Reddin said.
David Croft, one of the writers of Are You Being Served?, remembered her as a “marvellous character” who would never turn down chances to make people laugh.

Sir Cliff falls foul of planners……..
Sir Cliff Richard has been ordered to knock down a £30,000 conservatory built at his house in Surrey because he did not have planning permission.
An enforcement notice to demolish was issued after Runnymede Borough Council rejected a retrospective application for the extension in Virginia Water.
It said the 17ft (5.2m) by 13ft (4.2m) building was “disproportionate”.

Child survives Yemeni plane crash
A five-year-old child has been found alive, hours after a Yemeni airliner crashed in the Indian Ocean with more than 150 people on board.
Some bodies have also been recovered from the wreckage of the plane.
The Yemenia Airbus 310 flight IY626 was flying from the Yemeni capital Sanaa, but many passengers on the plane began their journey in France.
The EU voiced concern about Yemenia’s safety and proposed a world blacklist of those carriers deemed unsafe.
The EU already has its own list, and its transport commissioner, Antonio Tajani, said such a list would be a “safety guarantee for all”.
